Autumn is here

The trees are putting on their beautyful autumn display, the moon is brighter, the temperature cooler and the days are getting shorter. It must be autumn! It is a beautiful time of year, but autumn and winter can also be a time of increased illnesses, especially in young children.

Returning to school after the summer break can be quite a challenge. On a physical level there is more contact with "sick" children, often in stuffy and overheated classrooms. On an emotional level there may be change of classroom, teacher and sometimes friends.

There is an increasing awareness today of how the environment and emotions can influence not only our wellbeing, but also our resistance to acute illnesses.

Parents may find their children pick up any "bug" that is going round like coughs, colds and ear- and chest infections. Sometimes chronic ailments like eczema and asthma can flare up. In some cases behavioural problems, hyperactivity or even bed wetting may worsen at this time of year. Homeopathy doesn't "fight" each illness separately, but considers the whole person on a mental, physical and emotional level and encourages the body's self healing ability.
